First Day of School

Wednesday was the first day of "3rd" grade for Olivia and Thursday was orientation day for Lexi for her 2nd year of preschool. This year Lexi's preschool class is at Joshua Eaton elementary school, which is the school Olivia goes to, her classroom is actually Olivia's 1st grade class and Lexi has the same teacher Olivia had in preschool, Ms. Sally Ann. Lexi is the only token girl in a classroom of 10 boys!

Chinese Culture Weekend Final Day

On our final day, we woke ate breakfast at the hotel and headed off to the VT Teddy Bear Factory.

After the teddy bear factory, we headed over to Shelburne Farms, once owned by the Vanderbilts. The property is absolutely huge.

This is a picture of the Barn. We didn't have the pass to go up to the Inn along Lake Champlain. The barn was the size of a mansion.

The kids got to milk a cow.

And hold a chicken.

Olivia found a just hatched egg!

They had lots of fun riding the John Deer tractors around the property.

Bread! A weekend without bread and finally a whole bakery full! I enjoyed my roll so much, except when the chicken tried to take it away.

On the ride home, we stopped at the Queechee Gorge. I was afraid to look over, but got a pic!
Also, we took the wrong rode home and it took us an additional 1.5 hours to get home. UGHH!

Chinese Culture Weekend Day 3

On our final day, we ate breakfast and relaxed as the kids enjoyed a few more hours of camp.

They practiced their sword dancing again.

We made dim sum.

And in the afternoon, all the kids put on a big show of everything they learned.
Here Lexi shows off her sword dance.

Olivia does her hula hooping.

And, one final pic of all the kids!

We left camp and drove North to Colchester to spend the night at a hotel. After checking in, we went to Church St in Burlington were we enjoyed PIZZA!

We took some pics of the travelling cows!

A beautiful view of Lake Champlain.

We ended the night, back at the hotel swimming in the pool.

Chinese Culture Weekend Day 2

Needless to say, our cottage didn't have electricity or bathrooms. So, when the sun rose, so did Olivia and me as we ran through the woods to use the facilities. Breakfast was at 7:30am, so we needed to be up and dressed early in the morning.
First on the agenda for Sat, was Circus Arts for the kids. The kids could spin dishes, gymnastics, chinese toys and juggling. Here Lexi takes her turn at spinning the dish.
Olivia brushes up on her handstands.

Olivia also learned to make dumplings. Although, we didn't eat them - the "smooshed" turkey didn't look appetizing.

We took a caligraphy class and made beautiful books with all of our new artwork.

In the early afternoon, we walked down to the pond, un-prepared, as you can see. All the kids were just suppose to put their feet in and in the blink of an eye they were soaked!

After the pond adventure, the kids walked around in the "kid" dragon parade.

Ellen and Wally learned how to play Mah-Jong. The rest of us learned on Sunday.

We made dragon puppets too!

And then, we walked back to the pond, with all the kids in their bathing suits this time!

The girls learned how to sword dance.
And at night, the "big" dragon appeared.

The kids stood on the hill with their pearls to tease the dragon to chase them.

After dinner, we enjoyed a tea ceremony and hung out playing and practicing our calligraphy.

Chinese Culture Weekend Day 1

On Friday, we packed the car up once again and headed out. This time, we were heading North to our Chinese Culture Weekend Adventure in Starksboro, VT.

First stop! Welcome to VT!
We stopped at the VT welcome center, which turned out to be very nice, with a Veteran's Memorial.
Stop 2! Ice Cream! We stopped at the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory tour and had a taste of their newest flavor "Milk and Cookies"

Final Stop! Camp Common Ground. We arrived at about 3:30pm

This was a picture from the hill and woods looking down to the main building.

Here is our cabin for the weekend! The walls were filled with hay.
This is the collection of cabins in our area. Our friends stayed in these cabins.

We enjoyed relaxing in the rocking chairs on the porch of the main building. You could often find us here.

Or you could find us here!

The first night's meal. This is actually a picture of Ellen's plate due to me being a picky eater. The orange flower was edible.

In the early evening, the girls and some adults enjoyed learning Tai Chi.

At night we sat around the campfire and learned common songs in Chinese.

The kids got to cook up some S'Mores!
After the campfire, we used our lanterns to find our way back through the woods to our cabin.
